The MSc in Applied Data Science (Online) provides training to those with a non-specialist background, to enable you to enhance your future opportunities and play a key role in the digital economy. 

Delivered collaboratively by the School of Mathematics and Computer Science, the programme will enable you to work with, visualise and understand data, encourage statistical thinking and develop data-driven decision-making.

This MSc provides the necessary foundation in mathematics, statistics and basic programming skills that are essential in understanding the complexity of data and its analysis. It also provides you with key skills in several areas of computer science, such as data mining and machine learning, leading to potential roles as a data analyst, researcher, business analyst or statistician.

The programme’s flexible nature provides you with a rich, self-directed learning experience that is supported by live teaching sessions and an engaged community of peers, enabling you to shape your study schedule around your career, family life and time zone.

This programme is aimed at students who have a degree in any non-highly numerate subject (and is appropriate for those who do not have a degree in mathematics or a similar subject), but who are interested in learning essential data science methods with various applications.

Topics Likely To Be Covered

The programme is divided into two parts. You will begin your studies with mathematical and computational foundations of data science. This is followed by more advanced topics such as machine learning and symbolic artificial intelligence.

The second part of the programme will be a final project that will focus on the application of your knowledge and skills in data science. Where possible, project topics will be tailored to your personal interests and career ambitions.

Description

The MSc Global Challenges in Health & Medicine programme draws upon Medical School expertise and knowledge to explore contemporary global health challenges. The programme will cover topics such as child health, health systems, inequality, maternal health, power and politics in a global context. This interdisciplinary programme aims to produce global scientists who will be impactful, analytical, assertive, creative, and embracing change.

Students will engage with a mix of face-to-face and online learning, building skills in research methods, ethics, project design and management, and proposal development. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate with international researchers in the Medical School at Swansea University through shadowing and benefit from a diverse network of guest speakers, including international clinicians, practitioners, and researchers with extensive real-world experience in global health. The programme places a strong emphasis on developing students’ impact-driven research skills, particularly through participatory action research, allowing students to cultivate the skills required to address real-world challenges in diverse global health settings.

This course will provide high-quality graduate training and skills for further postgraduate study or for those seeking employment in the global health sector, humanitarian emergency settings, policy making, academia, research and advocacy roles.

Aging global populations, climate change and global health, epidemics and outbreaks, famine and food crisis, forced migration and displacement, global child health, health in conflict zones, mental health, methods, evaluation and ethics in global health and medicine research, non-communicable diseases, participatory action research, project management in global health and medicine and urban health.

The PGDip Nursing (Adult) course is an accelerated 2-year programme, and has been designed for graduates of any discipline, who wish to begin a nursing career. Throughout the course you will build the skills and experience to become a compassionate and caring nurse, with the confidence to meet the evolving challenges of healthcare workers.

The programme will have a strong emphasis on practical skills, with 50% of the course spent on clinical placements in a diverse range of settings including hospitals, the community, and nursing homes.

If you are a UK student who can commit to working in Wales for two years after graduating, you could get your tuition fees covered in full through the NHS Wales Bursary Scheme.
