CELTA trainees during their time studying at Swansea University. Staff are now hoping to track down as many former students as possible.
As part of Swansea University’s Centenary celebrations, its English Language Training Services has embarked on a global hunt to track down former students.
It wants to hear from anyone who has taken part in the CELTA training programme and learned how to teach English as a foreign language at Swansea.
Hopefully their memories and experiences can then be used to create a world map featuring pictures and comments.
In an open letter sent to former CELTA trainees ELTS’ Peter Neville described them as part of the Swansea University story.
He said: “Over the years we have trained a large number of people to do CELTA, some at the start of their careers, others undertaking a career change, and yet more looking for a way to refocus their endeavours in later life.
“Many of the people we have trained have gone on to enjoy success in teaching English, some close to home, others in far-flung destinations and perhaps in unusual circumstances. Others may have used their CELTA and teaching experience as a springboard to other realms of work.
“We’d love to be able to showcase some real life examples of CELTA success, both to celebrate and mark what’s gone before, and to encourage those who will come after you. “
He added: “I very much hope to hear interesting stories and experiences both from people we’ve had contact with over the years and those of you who we’ve not heard from for a while.“
