Our Environment
Our research community combines the expertise of colleagues within Applied Linguistics and English Literature and Creative Writing departments organised around widely recognised research centres, including Welsh Writing in English, Disability and Health Humanities, Gender, Corpus Linguistics, Language Acquisition and Creative Writing. Our research is collaborative, interdisciplinary and connected. We have a strong community of research users, from the creative industries and arts organisations, to schools and national governments.
Our Outputs
Major research achievements during the census period reflect our researchers’ leading roles in collaborative and interdisciplinary research. These include the completion of a National Corpus of Contemporary Welsh (CorCenCC), the open access publication of a digital edition of the letters of Elizabeth Montague (1718-1800) and the publication of the landmark Cambridge History of Welsh Literature.
Our Impact
Our research: shapes language, education, digital and cultural policies in Wales and abroad; provides inspiration and new sources for arts practitioners, production companies and publishers; generates new content for TV and radio in English and Welsh, stimulating new knowledge and cultural debate. It contributes to a wider public understanding and drives social, cultural and economic gains.
