Get Moving, Get Together, Get Active

Swansea University is an active University with a passion for sport. We believe that sport and active lifestyles are central to the overall success of our University by supporting students, staff, and the wider community to thrive and flourish in their academic, social, and professional lives.

Our new physical activity programme 'Get ACTIVE' aims to support staff and students’ health and wellbeing, by introducing an exciting range of fun and inclusive physical activities and events, both on and off campus.

Get ACTIVE aims to:

  • Increase the number of students and staff who are sufficiently active.
  • Increase the number of accessible and inclusive physical activity opportunities available to students and staff.
  • Increase the workforce to support the growth, development and delivery of Get ACTIVE activities.

With a focus on helping to build a warm and welcoming campus community, Get ACTIVE offers recreational activities for all levels, focused on getting people together to make new friends, have fun, get outdoors as much as possible and get moving more.

Activities that will be delivered as part of the core timetable include table tennis, badminton, volleyball and rounders, to name but a few.

As well as the core timetable of activity on campus, the programme also offers tasters, pop ups, challenges and coached sessions, covering a wide range of activities from new age curling, walking and jogging to water sports, street golf, softball cricket or wheelchair basketball, as well as opportunities to get offsite and make the most of the Welsh outdoors.

Shana Thomas, Engage Programme Manager said:

I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to help introduce Get ACTIVE at the University. With a background in public health, sport and physical activity, I’m really passionate about the importance of being active; and the positive impact engaging in physical activity of all kinds can have on individuals.

“We want Swansea University to be an active university in which our students and staff are given ample opportunities to prioritise their health and wellbeing.

“Get ACTIVE aims to offer a comprehensive programme of activities and events, informed by student and staff insight. Essentially, it’s about having fun, getting involved, having a go and getting together with friends, fellow students and colleagues.”
