Swansea University Sports Clubs Shine with Pink Power for Breast Cancer Awareness

As we wrap up October, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the fantastic efforts our sports clubs have made to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. From turning the stands pink to hosting high-energy events, our teams have truly made a difference this month. Almost all clubs took it upon themselves to dedicate their Wednesday social nights to a ‘pink night’, ensuring they were all doing their part to raise awareness.

Kicking off the celebrations, our Sports Executive Officer hosted an exciting ‘Ladies Day,’ where female club members came together for a day packed with friendly competition. The afternoon was filled with fun activities, as athletes competed in various sports to help raise awareness for this important cause. It was an afternoon to remember, thanks to all the participants!

The action didn’t stop there. Our Men’s First Team rugby squad faced off against Exeter University in a thrilling match that’s sure to be talked about for years to come. The real highlight, however, was the sea of pink in the stands as fans took part in a ‘PINK OUT’ night to show their support. The crowd, clad in pink, raised awareness in style, while the Student Union worked hard to fundraise for breast cancer research. What a turnout!

Meanwhile, the Swansea swimming team also embraced the pink theme, with swimmers sporting new pink caps and swimsuits during their training sessions. Head coach Hayley Baker led by example, proudly wearing pink herself. It was a sea of pink in the 50m Olympic pool, as swimmers made quite a splash while supporting the cause.

The month wrapped up with a spectacular Breast Cancer Bingo Lingo night, organized by the Swansea Sirens and the Men’s Rugby team. The event, filled with fun fancy dress and exciting bingo action, raised an impressive £700. It was a perfect way to end the month, with plenty of energy and heart.

From charity tournaments hosted by our netball team to clubs raising funds at their fixtures, our sports clubs have once again proven they’re not just about competition—they’re about making a positive impact.

As we move into November, we’re looking forward to seeing what exciting events our students will bring to the table for Movember. Check out our ‘Movember Moments’ from last year, and stay tuned for what’s next!
