It was an inevitable choice to study here at Swansea University! There was no doubt about it! This is the place for me and it is one of the best choices of my life.

The opportunities I have chosen when studying through the medium of Welsh are incredible! And hand on my heart I believe I would not have received this experience and support at any other university. Right from the start when I attended an open day, every member of staff was very supportive and I immediately felt at home. As there are only a small number of us in the Welsh department, everyone knows each other well and the lecturers also know you which is different from subjects with a large number of students.

As I weighed up which university to attend I discovered that Swansea University was the ideal place for me as the Welsh undergraduate course offered literary, legal, political, creative modules as well as skills for the world of work such as writing personal statements.

I was lucky enough to receive the main scholarship of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol while studying here at Swansea University! In order to receive the main scholarship you must study 66% of your course through the medium of Welsh. This money helped me a lot while studying at university and you don't have to pay a penny back!

I am part of the Welsh Society (GymGym) and the choral society within the university. I was a secretary for the GymGym in my second year as well as Welsh officer for the university choir. During my time at university, Aelwyd yr Elyrch was established which combines my passion for the Welsh language and music.

After graduating, there are plenty of opportunities through the medium of Welsh - from postgraduate studies to learning and travel. There is plenty of choice! I'm not sure what I want to do yet but I definitely want to use my Welsh degree to inspire others to learn and use the language!

My favorite things about studying here at Swansea:

  • The location of the campus is wonderful! The coastal path, the beach and plenty of places to discover!
  • Swansea Family – Everyone at Swansea University is like one big family, everyone welcomes you with open arms!
  • Plenty of places to eat – From Joe's ice cream to Slug and Lettuce there is something for everyone!

With my hand on my heart, I cannot imagine what kind of place Swansea University would be without the Welsh language department and the opportunities available through the medium of Welsh. Academi Hywel Teifi, the support of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol as well as the Welsh department of Swansea University have been special! I look forward to finishing my degree and seeing where my next journey will be!
