Welsh Department student wins Swansea Employability Academy Award
A School of Culture and Communication student has won a Swansea Employability Academy Outstanding Contribution Academy (SEA) award for the year 2018-19.
Lydia Hobbs, who has just completed her second year on the BA Welsh degree, won the student award for creating and promoting Welsh language employment opportunities.
Since starting her degree course, Lydia has taken advantage of a wide range of work opportunities, often to encourage others to learn Welsh. These include being an ambassador for the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol; working for S4C and Parallel.Cymru; stewarding at the Urdd Eisteddfod and the National Eisteddfod; supporting local schools to promote the Welsh language, assisting with Welsh lessons and adjudicating at school eisteddfodau and being an ambassador for Swansea University's College of Arts and Humanities.
Lydia was nominated by the head of Welsh , Dr Rhian Jones. “Lydia has taken every opportunity to gain experience of working through the medium of Welsh in order to develop her personal skills and to promote the Welsh language within the University and beyond,” said Dr Jones. "We are very proud of her success and the fact that her efforts were recognized by winning the Swansea Employability Academy award. ”
