Do you like meeting new people and being involved in large projects? Do you want to enhance your skillset, make a difference to someone’s day and give back to the Swansea University community?

If you answered yes to the above why not join our amazing team of ‘Welcome to Swansea’ volunteers and help greet the new arrivals and make them feel at home in their new city this September. Welcome is one of the busiest times of the academic year and relies on staff and students from across the University offering their time to provide an enjoyable Welcome experience to new students, to provide a great first impression of Swansea University and ultimately start creating a sense of community

This year Welcome activity will run from Tuesday 16^th – Sunday 22^nd September.

Summary

The Welcome to Swansea volunteers work to support new students arriving on campus and play a crucial role in making them feel welcome in Swansea. They are a key factor in ensuring the Arrivals period runs smoothly.

Roles and Responsibilities

Meet and greet students/parents/visitors, by being friendly, welcoming and approachable and assist in answering any questions about the University and arrivals process.
• Signpost students/parents/visitors to key collection and general campus facilities e.g. parking, toilets, food and drink, faculty receptions etc.
Be friendly, welcoming and approachable to all students/parents/visitors.
•   Assist in answering any questions about the University and arrivals process.
•   Escalate any issues promptly to the Arrivals/Key Collection Coordinator.
•   Assist the Arrivals/Key Collection coordinator with any reasonable requests on the day.
•   Help keep areas tidy and clear.
•   Escalate any issues promptly to the Volunteer Coordinator.

Training

All volunteers will be given an induction session prior to the Arrivals period to support your roles and responsibilities and address any queries

Desired Experience

An ability to deliver high standards of customer service.
Ability to work under pressure.
To be smart and professional in appearance.
To be polite and courteous to students, parents/visitors at all times including, potentially difficult situations.
To always be approachable and ready to help, wearing a smile.
A good knowledge of the workings of Swansea University.

Volunteer Coordinator

Volunteer Coordinator

Summary

The Volunteer Coordinators will work in pairs to run the shift, manage and motivate the volunteers.

Role and Responsibilities

Conduct daily briefing
Give out Hi-vis, lunch voucher
Station Volunteers on bases
Ensure main areas are covered, rotate volunteers
Ensure volunteers take breaks (15 min tea break and lunch 30 min)
Confirm a base where there will always be one coordinator available (eg. Fulton/Y Twyni)
Escalate any issues to the Welcome Coordinator.
