About The Role
This fixed-term, part-time Research Assistant position (at 75% FTE for 26 months from 01.05.2025 until 30.06.2027) is funded exclusively through Professor Harshinie Karunarathna’s research grant funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The Research Assistant will conduct research directly under Professor Karunarathna’s supervision, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence-assisted nature-based approaches to flood and coastal erosion risk management assisted by coastal wetlands.
The ideal candidate should have a robust research background and proven track record in eco-hydraulics of the coastal environment, process-based computational modelling of coastal hydro-morphodynamics using XBeach, development and application of data-driven models including Gaussian Process modelling and other relevant Machine Learning techniques to eco-hydraulics, laser-based experimental techniques on sediment transport processes in coastal wetlands, assimilation of field and experimental data on sediment transport, and sediment transport process dynamics in UK saltmarshes. The candidate should also be able to develop models using Python programming language and have a good awareness of taking in-situ hydrodynamic and sediment transport measurements in UK saltmardhes and be able to demonstrate that they can work outside traditional disciplinary boundaries.
The interpretation of this job description is solely at the discretion of the grant holder Prof. Harshinie Karunarathna as this is a very specialist role for delivering a highly specialised research project.
