Swansea University’s MSc in Cyber Security has received official certification for its quality from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), which is part of GCHQ and is the UK’s leading expert body in the field.
Swansea’s MSc is the first in Wales to have received full and complete certification from the NCSC, and one of only a small number of courses across the UK to achieve this standard.
The NCSC runs the certified degree programme to help students make informed decisions about the range of courses on offer at UK universities and to help set a high standard of cyber security teaching across higher education.
The Swansea MSc course covers critical modern technology issues, from the security and privacy of personal data to cyberterrorism, cybercrime and mobile security.
It makes use of the facilities at the University’s brand new £32.5m Computational Foundry, including a Vision and Biometric Lab, a Maker Lab, a Theory Lab, a Cyber Security/Networking Lab, a User Lab and a Visualisation Suite.
Dr Bertie Muller, Senior Lecturer in Swansea University’s Department of Computer Science and Programme Director for Postgraduate Taught Programmes, said:
“The increasing importance of cyber security in all aspects of life calls for skilled experts with a holistic view on the related issues. We have therefore created a comprehensive, industry-informed Masters degree in cyber security.
We are delighted to have become the first Welsh university with a fully and completely NCSC certified MSc Cyber Security programme. This underlines our success in providing up-to-date education and facilities for students to explore the security landscape, undertake experiments in network security, mobile security, and investigate threats in the context of the Internet of Things and modern AI.”
