Swansea University is one of the top ten universities in the UK for environmental and ethical issues, the new league table compiled by People and Planet, published by The Guardian, has revealed.
People & Planet’s University League is the only comprehensive and independent league table of UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance. It is compiled annually by the UK’s largest student campaigning network, People & Planet.
People and Planet assess universities against 13 key areas, from energy sources and water reduction to sustainable food and where universities invest.
They then award each university a degree-style classification. Swansea was again judged to be a first-class institution, in the top 10 of all 154 UK universities assessed.
Swansea University Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Boyle said:
"Despite the challenges of the past twelve months, I am incredibly proud that we have been able to retain our top ten position within the League. This has only been possible thanks to the fantastic efforts of colleagues from across our University, as well as the commitment and enthusiasm of our students."
Dr Heidi Smith, Head of Sustainability at Swansea University, said:
“Top ten once again – what an achievement! This is testament to our staff and students’ passion, commitment and hard work. They have clearly demonstrated, in challenging times for us all, what can be done when working in partnership towards making a positive impact on the planet and its future generations”.
