Dr Gulzat Botoeva is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Swansea University. She investigates illegal economic activities ranging from drug trafficking in Central Asia to illegal gold mining and small-scale hashish harvesting in Kyrgyzstan. Dr. Botoeva is interested in studying illegal and informal economies (drug production, illegal gold mining, and illegal monies) in a post-Soviet context, primarily through qualitative research methods and ethnographies of crime. She has published in Theoretical Criminology, The International Journal of Drug Policy, and Central Asian Survey.
