Non-Standard Course Length

Not all courses start and end at the same times, and this will impact your accommodation application. Standard courses are the 'typical' 42-44 Week Undergraduate course length. You can check your term dates here.

If your course starts weeks before the 'typical' academic year, or runs for only part of it, then we can help. You will need to provide your course dates within your application for accommodation and we can try and support you by offering suitable accommodation.

We try to house students on non-standard length courses together so that they do not end up living on their own in accommodation at the start and the end of their course. We want you to have the best experience living in our accommodation and to enable you to live with students experiencing a similar student lifestyle which may involve placements or shift working.

Application:

When applying for accommodation online, you will need to make the following selection:
• Within ‘Application Category’, select: HEALTH SCIENCE COURSES (Nurses, Healthcare, etc.)

If you would prefer to be housed elsewhere and not live with other students studying courses with non-standard dates, please be aware that you will need to secure alternative accommodation between the start of your course, and the main University arrivals period.

If you require a change in contract dates, please contact us with the revised date, clearly outlining the required change and we can try to support you with this. If you have already been allocated accommodation, and the dates change, you may be reallocated to a different flat. This is so that you will be starting at the same time as students studying the same course dates as you.

If your course of study follows standard dates, then you may apply to live in any of our accommodation.

Visiting and Exchange Students

Inbound - Visiting and Exchange Students

Once you have been accepted to study at Swansea, the Go Global Team will send you information that includes your student number, which you can then use to complete your online accommodation application. You cannot complete your application without the information from the Go Global Team.

Although we do not guarantee accommodation for visiting and exchange students, you are still able to apply. To stand the best chance of securing accommodation, you should apply before:

Full year (September - June): 30 June

Semester 1 (September - January): 30 June

Semester 2 (January - June): 30 November

When will I know if I have secured my accommodation?

Full year: Rooms are normally offered to visiting and exchange students once we have allocated rooms to our full-time students who are under our guarantee. This happens after the majority of students receive their exam results in late August. Offers are then sent out almost daily.

Single semester: You should receive a room offer within 2 weeks of applying but at least 2 weeks prior to arrival. Check your email and accommodation account weekly for updates regarding allocation of accommodation.

It’s not normally possible to end your contract early once the contract is signed. You are bound by the conditions of your contract and you may need to go through an appeals process to be released.

Paying your Accommodation Fees

USA Fee Paying Visiting Students Only

If your accommodation costs are paid directly to Swansea University by your home university in the USA, you are still responsible for booking your own accommodation, but you will not need to pay us anything more than your reservation deposit when you make your online booking. Please check with the Study Abroad office at your home university to see if this applies to you.

Outbound - Swansea Students Studying Abroad

If you are studying away from Swansea for part of the year, we appreciate it can be more difficult to find accommodation. Therefore, we have some options available in our residences.

If you are in Swansea for the following:

Full-year Students (September - June)

If you sign up for our accommodation and find that you are studying abroad you will need to:

Notify us by the 30 June
Forward a letter of confirmation from your department
Reapply the following year for accommodation
Any Reservation deposit paid for that year will be carried over to the following years' application

Semester 1 (September - January) or Semester 2 (January - June)

You can apply for accommodation for one semester
You can alternatively explore private sector options
Please note that although you will be guaranteed a room, we will have limited options available.
