Your Career
I joined TechnipFMC Group in 2016 and worked as a Pressure Vessel Engineer and Piping Stress Analysis Engineer, gaining priceless knowledge in the Oil & Gas sector via numerous projects. Soon, in 2018, Corinth Pipeworks recruited me as a Maintenance Systems Analyst. There, I developed a unique expertise in Asset Performance Optimization.
In early 2020, I was promoted to Plant Continuous Improvement Manager and led the Operational Excellence Program resulting in outstanding improvements. Part of my personal contribution was the implementation of a state-of-the-art Digital Twin Technology, a global innovation in the Steel Pipe industry. For these, the company received two Silver Awards in the Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2022. Since early 2023, I hold the position of Plant Continuous Improvement Manager in Hellenic Cables in one of the largest and most advanced submarine cable plants globally. Corinth Pipeworks and Hellenic Cables are subsidiaries of Cenergy Holdings, member of Viohalco Goup.
How would you summarise your Swansea University experience?
It was a life-changing educational voyage. The University’s multi-cultural environment was a priceless experience that I would not have the luck to live in Greece. I made strong friendships with people from literally all over the world, exchanged experiences and traditions.
What are your top 3 favourite things about Swansea?
1) Singleton Park: It is one of the most beautiful and peaceful parks I have ever visited.
2) Wind Street: If you are looking for Swansea’s night life, then that’s the place. Many bars and restaurants to choose from to enjoy an unforgettable night with your friends.
3) Mumbles: Once you visit it, you will love it! A luxurious, yet cozy sea-side district of Swansea.
Why did you choose to study your degree at Swansea?
The Faculty of Engineering is ranked among the top in the UK by combining excellent teaching, state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities. The city is fascinating with endless leisure and shopping choices while the marina has a breathtaking view. Also, the University’s sport facilities give you the rare opportunity to practice any sport that you may desire. Who would not choose Swansea for his/her studies?
Would you recommend Swansea University to someone thinking of going to University?
Undoubtedly, yes. Swansea University provided me with the necessary knowledge to build strong foundations for a successful professional career. The academic staff was friendly and very supportive throughout my studies. Last but not least, the campus facilities and residences are brilliant while the overall cost of living is quite reasonable.
How did your degree prepare you for your career?
The Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering consisted of world class and a wide range of modules combining theoretical and practical knowledge. Also, the inter-disciplinary group projects developed our soft skills such as critical thinking, teamwork and communication.
My collaboration with Imerys S.A. and Gwent group during the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree and the continuous mentoring by my academic supervisors (Professors D.T. Gethin and T. Claypole) strengthen my professional attitude to lead by example and to promote collective power; I could not be more thankful and grateful to them.
In parallel to the Ph.D. degree, I took my soft skills one step further through the 3 year Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarship (KESS) provided by Bangor University and the European Union.
What advice would you give to students who want to pursue your career?
Operational Excellence and Smart Manufacturing are two creative, inspiring and interconnected worlds. Develop your professional skills continuously to become a true Servant Leader. Stay focused to your dreams and work hard to make them true but do not forget to keep a work/life balance. Your personal life gives you the power to carry on.
