The Swans100 project is exploring, conserving and celebrating the heritage of Swansea City FC. It commemorates the Swans’ centenary in 2012 and is a partnership between Swansea University and the Swansea City Supporters’ Trust. The project is establishing an online archive, consisting of fans’ memories, photographs and other historic documents. In giving a voice to football supporters, the project is exploring and celebrating the relationship between Swansea City and the community and creating a permanent record for future generations.
This HLF-funded research is being led by Dr Martin Johnes, a leading expert on the history of sport in Wales. Martin's latest book, Wales Since 1939 is out now with MUP.
A new interactive website has been launched. 100 years of Swansea City FC allows visitors to:
- View (and contribute to) an ever-expanding online archive, including previously unseen documents and photographs
- Keep up with the project's progress
- Contribute to a large scale survey of Swans supporters
The online archive will also include leaflets and education packs explaining and exploring the place of the club in the local community’s heritage.
