Project description:

Genomic medicine is transforming healthcare. However, the shortage of trained genetic counsellors (GCs) in the UK limits its full potential. One of the existing challenges is that the traditional training mechanism struggles to expose trainees to the diverse and complex cases encountered in practice. That leads to competency gaps.

One of the possible ways to tackle this challenge is the use of AI-powered large language models (LLMs). They can be used to develop scalable solutions by simulating realistic patient interactions, enhancing training depth and accessibility.

This project aims to develop a human-centred AI chatbot that bridges these gaps, ensuring trainees gain the necessary expertise. The outcome is a validated, scalable platform that strengthens workforce readiness and improves genomic counselling service delivery.
