Kickboxing Scholar, Charley Davies, Strikes Gold at the WKU World Championships
🎉 Swansea University’s own Charley Davies has done it again! Competing in the WKU World Championship in Rhodes, Greece, this unstoppable kickboxing star returned home with an impressive haul: two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze. Charley, who’s currently a second-year Education student, has been representing Wales on the world stage since 2022 – and she only seems to be getting stronger with each event!
Charley’s journey in the WKU World Championships started with a bang in Cardiff in 2022, where she proudly took home one silver and two bronze medals. The following year, she stepped it up in Canada, earning another silver and three bronze medals. This year in Greece, Charley’s dedication, skill, and sheer grit brought her to the top of the podium twice, adding to her ever-growing collection of medals!
Reflecting on her accomplishments, Charley expressed her gratitude for the support that’s helped fuel her success. “I wouldn’t have achieved my goal without the amazing support from everyone, including my coaches, my family, and the scholarship team. I’m extremely thankful for the help throughout my journey,” she shared.
Charley’s achievements are nothing short of incredible. Competing across a range of categories – from the fiercely competitive -55kg Karate Kumite and Pointfighting to the challenging -60kg Karate Kumite – Charley showcased her versatility and strength.
And if you thought her talents ended in the ring, think again! When she’s not training or studying, Charley loves to perform on stage. Just last year, she wowed audiences as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and is now rehearsing for her role in Shrek the Musical.
We couldn’t be prouder of Charley’s incredible achievements both on and off the mat. She truly embodies the spirit of Swansea University, and we’re excited to see what she’ll accomplish next.
