1. How to Enter
1.1. The Competition will run from 29th June 2020 – 4th September 2020
1.2. To nominate your memory, please email marketing@swansea.ac.uk to explain why that place is important to you, by 23:59 on Friday 4th September.
1.3. Entries are free and must be made online by e-mail to marketing@swansea.ac.uk Entries can be attached as a Word document, plain text file or alternatively pasted in the body of the e-mail. All entries will be acknowledged by email.
1.4. When entering, along with your memory, please ensure that you include the following in the e-mail: name of those involved in the memory, date of memory, location of memory, your relationship with the University (e.g. student, staff, alumni)
1.5. The competition is open to all Swansea University staff (past and present), students and alumni.
1.6. Nominations are limited to one per entrant.
1.7. Entries can be submitted in English or Welsh.
1.8. All those who enter will be judged by an internal panel consisting of Swansea University staff and will be assessed against uniform criteria.
1.9. The University will not accept responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment/internet failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.
1.10. The competition is subject to revision and may be withdrawn at any time.
1.11. Details are accurate at time of release.
2. Winning Entries
2.1. A maximum of 10 winners can be chosen to be commemorated with a Navy Plaque.
2.2. Winners will be announced on Friday 25th September, with the plaques being installed as soon as is feasible after this date. The plaques will be displayed until the end of 2021, when Centenary celebrations draw to a close.
2.3. Plaques may be removed at any time, subject to campus developments.
2.4. The decision of the internal panel is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into concerning their decision.
2.5. The Navy Plaques may be publicly shared for marketing purposes.
2.6. Competition winners agree to participate in relevant marketing and media opportunities.
3. Limitation of Liability
3.1. Insofar as is permitted by law, the University will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winning entrants or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of the Navy Plaques except where it is caused by the negligence of the University . Your statutory rights are not affected.
4. Ownership of Nominations and Intellectual Property
4.1. As its creator you will retain any potential copyright for your entry. All winners agree to grant the University a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to use your story in whole or in part as described in 4.2 and 4.3.
4.2. You agree that the University can use your nomination on a Navy Plaque at one of the nominated sites of the University to celebrate the centenary. You agree that the nomination may be publically shared, in a public place on the University’s premises and may include personal data such as names and dates.
4.3. You agree that the University may, but is not required to, make your entry available on its website and any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the competition. You agree to grant the University a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the competition entry to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the competition entry for such purposes. You agree that the University may use the nomination and Navy Plaque in its digital communications (eg website, social media, email) or on printed communications (eg an event flyer). The University will credit you as the provider of the nomination anytime the University uses your work. The University will not seek to publish your story in any third party’s media (eg magazine, newspaper or media website) without your consent.
4.4. Competition winners agree to participate in relevant marketing and media opportunities
4.5. By submitting the nomination you agree and warrant that nothing in your story breaches any privacy, copyright or intellectual property right in another’s work.
4.6. You agree that if it is determined that if any part of your nomination is in breach of clause 4.5, your entry will not be eligible to be used on a Navy Plaque.
5. Data Protection
5.1. The University will only process your personal information as set out in the University’s privacy policy.
5.2. It is the responsibility of the competition entrant to ensure consent has been provided by anyone else expressly named in the nomination.
5.3. The University will not be responsible for any claims of any nature arising out of a completion entrants failure to obtain the consent/s of any named person/s in their nomination.
6. General
6.1. If the University believes that you have breached any of these terms and conditions, the University may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.
6.2. The University will be unable to give feedback on the nominations.
6.3. The terms and conditions may be amended by the University at any time.
6.4. Nothing in these terms and conditions excludes or restricts any of your statutory rights.
6.5. These terms and conditions shall be governed by English and Welsh law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
