About

Dr Rudd has a decade of experience working in chemistry and the technical circular economy, developing next generation solar panels and working on hydrogen generation and carbon capture. Using this knowledge, Dr Rudd developed the You and CO2 programme in 2018, seeking to teach young people about climate mitigation. Since then, she has worked on a number of climate change education programmes across the disciplines, age ranges and countries. She has helped train teachers in Nigeria, co-created a programme for Welsh primary school pupils to learn about fast fashion, co-developed a new scale for measuring climate capability and consulted for a range of third sector and educational institutions on climate change education programmes.

Dr Rudd is a member of the Net Zero by 2035 commission, advising Welsh Government on pathways to Net Zero, she has been invited to present her work in the Senedd and at trade events in London.

Dr Rudd has communicated the climate emergency through national talks, radio and printed media and gave a TEDx talk in 2019. She is regularly invited to give talks on climate change mitigation and climate change education and was nominated for two Swansea University awards in 2020.

MN-M606 Sustainability and Environmental Management

The Climate Crisis, Sustainability, and Environmental Management, are becoming increasingly important for business. Just as global, national and regional political institutions are ethically and legally compelled to respond to the challenges posed by climate change, environmental degradation, resource scarcity, and infrastructural inequalities, businesses and organisations are no exception. This module provides climate literacy training and draws on multi-disciplinary perspectives to examine key issues in Sustainability and Environmental Management. Students will develop a critical understanding of the wide ranging types of data used to inform sustainability governance at all scales, and environmental management policy and practice. Students are encouraged to reflect on how sustainability and environmental management principles are adopted by those organisations around them; on campus; in Swansea, and at home. Throughout the course, students have the opportunity to earn a certificate in climate literacy. This achievement not only signifies their completion of the module but also equips them with valuable knowledge they can apply in their professional environments, enhancing their capability to address climate-related challenges effectively.
MNXN009 Innovation Towards a Circular Economy

This module will develop professional learners¿ ability to understand and create innovation management processes and practices in their workplace with a particular focus on `circular economy¿ challenges. The module will introduce learners to the `Design Thinking Approach¿, which will subsequently be used as the overarching framework to solve the circular economy challenges that participants will bring to the programme. The module aims to use a range `experiential learning¿ events to encourage learners to engage with theoretical constructs and personal reflection in order to inform their practice.

Public Engagements

Dr Rudd gives scientific advice to Extinction Rebellion regarding a circular carbon economy as part of the “Scientists for XR” team. She has presented her research at a number of conferences, including those run by the Royal Society of Chemistry and the British Educational Research Association.

In addition, Dr Rudd gave a TEDx talk in 2019 and spoke for Oriel Science in 2018.

She has also been featured in printed, radio and televised media.
