About

Paul joined the University in 2015 after a successful career in industry spanning 20 years. He worked at senior levels in sales and marketing in the technology and software sectors, beginning with two of the world’s leading manufacturers (IBM, Silicon Graphics / Cray Supercomputers) before progressing to sales and managing director roles for a number of UK start-ups, including award-winning companies. Using this practical experience, his teaching focus has been centred on the introduction and development of numerous new and highly relevant and practical subjects, most notably including digital marketing, sales management and application development.

Paul holds a bachelors in Economics and Business, is a fellow of AdvanceHE, an elected member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and holds a post-graduate teaching qualification (with distinction). He has held strategic roles within the school, serving as a Programme Director for 3 years and for 2 years as co-chair of a pioneering cross-school committee focussed on promoting inclusivity, identity and community within the institution. He has been the recipient of multiple commendations, nominations and awards from colleagues, students and professional bodies and is a frequent speaker at conferences. His research activities are based upon the implementation of pedagogical innovations and digital enterprise projects that explore and develop new ways of building student experience and employability. As a practicing academic, he is the managing director of a spin-out company that provides marketing and business consultancy to a range of private and public sector clients. This work not only informs teaching but also provides regular and practical business experience opportunities for students.

Paul has an inclusive approach to teaching that combines contemporary theory with real world practice. Ongoing projects (and related research) explore how the implementation of VR and XR can support students by creating new learning opportunities that build confidence and inspire skills development at all levels.
