• MN-2055 Critical Thinking in Entrepreneurship

  It is intended the module will provide students with an understanding of all the issues encountered by entrepreneurs in practice while framing these issues theoretically.

• MN-D019 Business Project

  This module offers students the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills developed in MN-M595 Business Project Foundations. Specifically, students will be tasked with a real-world problem from industry partners and will have to apply the concepts learnt in Business Projects Foundations to complete the task. In groups, students will investigate these problems and present recommendations and solutions, based on a robust exercise in evidence gathering and critical analysis. The focus on this module is developing understanding of the workplace research process and how best this can be done.

• MN-M550 Critical Thinking in Entrepreneurship

  This module helps students explore the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation within a global economy. Students will develop their knowledge about what it means to be an entrepreneur while framing these issues theoretically within small business management. Students will consider the concepts, theoretical models and develop their understanding of the entrepreneurial process.

• MN-M595 Business Project Foundations

  As preparation for your business project, this module focuses on how to successfully undertake a business project and develops associated career enhancing employability skills. Case studies on related business topics (drawing on concepts covered in other modules) will be used to illustrate this application within the lectures and practical workshops. Across the sessions in this module, students will be provided with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to embark on their business project. Practical seminars will provide the opportunity to apply and evaluate what is learned in the lectures.

Samuel teaches the managing people and organisation course across most first undergrads in the school of management. The course introduces students to contemporary issues encountered by human resource and operations managers.

Samuel delivers lectures and facilitates seminars for undergraduate students on the entrepreneurship pathway; the course encourages critical thinking in entrepreneurship. It provides students with an understanding of major issues encountered by entrepreneurs in practice while framing these issues theoretically.

Samuel also teaches the postgraduate module on theories of entrepreneurship and small business management. This module helps students explore the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation within a global economy. Samuel supports students to develop their knowledge on what it means to be an entrepreneur while framing issues theoretically within small business management. His course covers the concepts, theoretical models and development of the entrepreneurial process.

British Council Grants to Support Improvements in Funding and Sustainability Models in the Nigerian Higher Education Sector 2018 - 2019,

Background

Swansea University and OOU partnership won the British Council Grant for sustainable entrepreneurial funding model in Nigerian Higher Education Institutions. The efforts of the University in the area of research collaboration is yielding the desired results considering the recent approval of a seed grant to Olabisi Onabanjo University and Swansea University, United Kingdom by the British Council. BC formally acknowledged that the University’s collaborative proposal with Swansea University was adjudged “the best amongst a significant number of high quality applications received.” The memo stated further that “after a rigorous selection process and evaluation of the responses the British Council was pleased to inform OOU and Swansea University, United Kingdom that they have won the Grant to Support improvements in Funding and Sustainability Models in the Nigeria Higher Education”. The BC seed grant of Ten Thousand Pounds Sterling was awarded.

Aim and Objectives

The aim and title of the OOU and Swansea University partnership project was: “Attaining New and Improved Entrepreneurial Sustainable Funding Models Through Study Visit and Capacity Building Programme with Swansea University Entrepreneurship Team”.

Specifically, the objectives was to do the following:

1. Review of existing funding frameworks at OOU.
2. Support the exchange of knowledge and best practice in entrepreneurship development.
3. Support the development of cross-institutional collaborations and growth of more sustainable entrepreneurial funding models as well as graduate outcomes.
