About

Emily Bacon is a Post-Doctoral Affiliate based in the School of Management. Her PhD research focused on the conditions for knowledge transfer success within innovation ecosystems. She has published on knowledge transfer success within ecosystem partnerships and coopetitive relationships in internationally renowned academic journals utilising the analytical technique of fsQCA. Emily has attended leading academic conferences to disseminate her research. Her recent submission to the INEKA (2019) conference received an award from Technological Forecasting and Social Change. With a teaching background, she currently teaches in the School of Management at both Undergraduate and Masters level.

MN-M549 Research Methods

This module will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of research methods and methodologies to better prepare students on how to conduct a dissertation. The lectures and seminars will be split to cover both the theoretical and practical nature associated with research. They will cover all aspects of research methods: from what is research, the ethics associated with conducting research, the literature review, methodology and what types of research exist such as quantitative and qualitative. This module will highlight the links that exist between each stage of the research development process. As well as developing traditional research methods skills, this module will also focus on the development of career enhancing employability skills.
MN-MAH04 Value-Based Health and Care: Strategy Development

This module will be split into 5 parts: - Principles of Value-Based Health and Care (VBHC): this will be a facilitated case-study discussion, with students analyzing and discussing the details behind the creation of a VBHC system. - Translating VBHC into practice: This will build on the case study above to go into detail around how to successfully translate the theory of Value-Based Health and Care (VBHC) into practice, resulting in the creation of VBHC systems. - The role of the Life Science Industry in a Value-Based Health and Care system: This module will focus on understanding the role of the life science industry in a Value-Based Health and Care (VBHC) system. - Negotiation to achieve long term Value-Based partnerships: This will build on the above, simulating a negotiation between the life science industry and the health system, focused on the formation of a long-term value-based partnership. - Adopting a strategy for delivering Value-Based Health and Care : Students will reflect on what they have learnt and synthesise new understandings specific to their current role and organization. Participants will be split into small groups to determine how they will evolve their respective VBHC strategies in their different contexts.
MN-MAH05 Value-Based Health and Care: Strategy Implementation

This module will be split into three sections. Section 1: This will be delivered through Case-Based Learning. Five case studies will be used, drawn from examples across the NHS, Social Care and third Sector in Wales. Case studies will be discussed in detail according to a structured methodology enabling students to understand the approaches taken by different systems to successfully implement VBHC strategies. Specific topics will be covered by case studies. After each case-based discussion, there will be a 60-minute presentation building on the case study content to focus in on the key learning outcomes. Section 2: This will focus on different leadership theories. Students will critically appraise the different theories and explore how these theories can be applied to support the creation of VBHC systems. VBHC represents a significant change in the way health and care systems operate and therefore, effective implementation requires strong leadership skills to bring colleagues on the journey. Section 3: This will focus on culture change and present key theories and frameworks that can support the implementation of culture change programmes. Students will critically appraise these approaches and explore how they can be used to support the creation of VBHC systems. VBHC requires a significant change in culture and therefore, students need to understand how to effectively lead culture change.
MNXN009 Innovation Towards a Circular Economy

This module will develop professional learners¿ ability to understand and create innovation management processes and practices in their workplace with a particular focus on `circular economy¿ challenges. The module will introduce learners to the `Design Thinking Approach¿, which will subsequently be used as the overarching framework to solve the circular economy challenges that participants will bring to the programme. The module aims to use a range `experiential learning¿ events to encourage learners to engage with theoretical constructs and personal reflection in order to inform their practice.
MNXN010 Principles of Value-Based Health and Care – Bespoke

This course is designed to help you understand and embed Value-Based Health and Care into your organisation or team. The module consists of seven topics: - Introduction to Value-Based health and care - Principles of Value-Based Health and Care - Translating Value-Based Health and Care into practice - The role of the Life Science Industry in a Value-Based Health and Care system - Negotiation to achieve long-term Value-Based Partnerships - Adopting a strategy for delivering Value-Based Health and Care - Building a Sustainable Value-Based Health and Care Community of Practice Each session is delivered through a combination of pre-recorded videos, case study discussion, plenary and panel presentation, virtual (or in person) small group discussion, practical exercises, alongside objective setting and the development of a personal action plan. Throughout the course, content will be provided from diverse perspectives, typically those of a patient or carer, a clinician, policy makers, health payers, procurement specialists and life-science industry organisations.
