Urdd Gobaith Cymru's Peace and Goodwill Message 2021

It is a great honour that the Urdd has chosen to do work with Swansea students

Some of Swansea University's students create this year's message

Students from Swansea University have created the Urdd Gobaith Cymru Peace and Goodwill message 2021 this year on behalf of the young people in Wales and the video message  will be released on 18th May 2021.

The theme of this year's message is "Equality for Women and Girls", and twenty-one Swansea University students attended workshops hosted by poet and author Llio Maddocks and Gwennan Mair, Theatr Clwyd's Director of Creative Engagement to prepare the message for to be announced to the world. It has been translated into over 65 languages and the commitment of these young people to making a difference has been inspiring.

As well as working with the Urdd to promote the message through social media and with schools, some students will have the opportunity to travel to New York for an event in the United Nations building in October 2021, subject to COVID-19 regulations

Every year since 1922 without fail the process of sending a message of peace and goodwill on behalf of the young people of Wales to young people around the world on May 18 has been encouraging and inspiring humanitarian and international activity.

No other country in the world has achieved this, overcoming wars and major changes in methods of communication, from Morse Code to radio and the postal service, to the digital networks of today.

Swansea University is very grateful to the Urdd for providing this opportunity for our students to collaborate on such a valuable project, and proud of our young people for raising their voice for a better future for women and girls.
