Urdd Gobaith Cymru's Message of Peace and Goodwill 2021

Swansea's Welsh-medium students prepare this year's message

Some of Swansea University's Welsh-medium students have been given the opportunity to help Urdd Gobaith Cymru prepare and announce their annual Message of Peace and Goodwill. This is the first time the Urdd has teamed up with a university to prepare the message which will celebrate its centenary next year.

The theme of this year's message is "Equality for Women and Girls", and twenty Swansea University students have begun work on preparing the message and announcing it to the world. The message is to be published on 18 May 2021, the Message of Peace and Goodwill Day.

As well as working with the Urdd to promote the message through social media and with schools, some students will have the opportunity to travel to New York for an event in the United Nations building in October 2021, subject to COVID-19 regulations .

Dr Gwenno Ffrancon, Director of Academi Hywel Teifi said:

"It is wonderful to learn that Swansea University students are preparing the Urdd Gobaith Cymru's message of Peace and Goodwill  for 2021. This is the first time that the Urdd has worked with a university on this message and it is a great honour that The Urdd has chosen to do that with Swansea students. I have no doubt that the students will benefit greatly from coming together to discuss this year's theme and learn more about each other's experiences and perspectives and other views around the world. They have experienced an extremely challenging time recently, and this is an opportunity for them to build their confidence and look to inspire others. I look forward to hearing this year's message.

Siân Lewis, Chief Executive of Urdd Gobaith Cymru, said:

“The Urdd has been sending an annual message of peace and goodwill to the world every year since 1922, encouraging and inspiring humanitarian and international activity. We as an organization look forward to working with Swansea University students on the theme and content of this year's message, giving our young people a platform to reach out through friendship and unity around the world. ”
